Mix 1 cup of water with 3 cups of sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium high heat and then remove from heat.
Add food colour or some flavouring (vanilla, peppermint extract, cherry extract etc.) if desired (optional). Stir. Pour into a glass container and suspend string, a pipecleaner solution.
